Great Otway National Park

One step along the Great Ocean Road is the rainforest of Great Otway National. The scenery is so detailed that it almost seems artificial.

We are spending Thursday before the convention on a small group tour of the Great Ocean Road southwest of Melbourne. The weather was rainy, but the scenery was great.

We settled into the Hotel Victoria, our base of operations for the remainder of our stay. On Wednesday evening we opted for an early dinner of pub grub at a brew pub half a block from our hotel. We also made a quick visit to the tourist information center in the Town Hall.

Barbara just finished breakfast on the plane as we approach the coast of Australia.

Finally on the way

Our first attempt to fly from San Francisco to Melbourne on Sunday night ended in a flight cancellation before we became airborne. We spent what remained of the night in a motel and were re-booked on the same flight Monday night. This time we got to take off, albeit slightly late. This entry was posted while in flight, so the journey continues. There are lots of Rotarians on our flight, including DGN Mike Martin from Mattoon.

Return to Melbourne

In 1993 I attended the Rotary International Convention in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, as president-elect of my club. This spring the convention will again be held in Melbourne, and Barbara and I plan to attend. One souvenir of my 1993 trip is this luggage tag used on my flight from the Gold Coast to Melbourne. Not a bar code in sight, and EastWest Airlines is no longer around.
